3 Mornings to go - This is Why

Christiaan PAGE:

Good morning. I'm Christiaan Page, and welcome to 30 winter mornings. This is a short daily podcast for professionals delivering complex live events. And over the next 30 mornings, we've been counting down to the opening ceremony of the Milan Cortina Winter Games. Each morning, we've taken a few minutes to slow things down to find perspective, reassurance, and calm during the most demanding phase of the delivery.

Christiaan PAGE:

This isn't training. It's not motivational. It's a daily check-in, a moment of company before your day begins. Three mornings to go. And at this point, fatigue is real.

Christiaan PAGE:

The sense of exhaustion is real. The days have blended together. It's hard to know what day of the week it is because the pressure has been constant. And it can be really hard to remember why any of this matters. So today isn't about doing more.

Christiaan PAGE:

It's about just pausing and remembering. Not the headlines and not the the big elements of the spectacle, not necessarily even related to the opening ceremony, but the quieter reasons. We do this work because it brings people together, because moments matter, Because for a brief time, something complex becomes shared. And behind every moment that works, there are people like you who chose responsibility over recognition, and that's you. And there's a simple idea often shared amongst professional craftspeople.

Christiaan PAGE:

And they say, when the work gets hard, you don't look at the whole thing. You remember who it's for. And in this final stretch, purpose steadies effort. Because and and before this day begins, asking you of things, let's just pause for our check-in. So first of all, who ultimately benefits from the work you're doing today?

Christiaan PAGE:

And I'm not talking about the abstract audiences. I wanna think about real people. And I'd ask you to narrow it down and hold just that one person and hold that one in your mind. It might be an athlete. It might be someone in your family, a friend, a colleague.

Christiaan PAGE:

So no abstract audiences, but really who ultimately benefits from the work you're doing today and hold them in your mind. Second, what part of your work reflects your values? You've been doing all this work and putting so much effort. And what are your values that are reflected in this? We've sort of often mentioned we do this because we care.

Christiaan PAGE:

Maybe it's about fairness and delivering something bigger than ourselves, and it's our way to contribute fairly. It's about having pride in doing things properly. So I really encourage you to name it. That part of your work reflects your values. Thirdly, how can remembering why change how you show up today?

Christiaan PAGE:

Not necessarily louder, not necessarily harder, just steadier. Remembering the why. Because late in delivery, purpose becomes the fuel. This is the why. Remember, wherever you are, stay safe, stay healthy, and bye for now.
